WHAT CNN AND FOX WON'T TELL YOU

MEET THE NEW GOSS, SAME AS THE OLD GOSS
Let's take a quick scan of the man America's First Retarded Preznit has chosen to replace the man who replaced George "Fall Guy" Tenet as head of the Central Intelligence Agency: Florida Republican congressman Porter Goss!
As for fitting in with the rest of the Bush cabal, Goss is a "slam dunk." He's old, he's white to the point of translucency, and his face is stuck in a perpetual, hateful scowl. In every picture ever taken of him, Goss looks like he's just guzzled a tall glass of spoilt milk. His lizard eyes -- twin pools reflecting the nebulous void of his vacuum soul -- don't inspire much confidence, either. One of these days, we'll probably see a forked tongue come darting out from between those iguana lips of his. He hasn't even been appointed yet, and he already looks like a war criminal. I bet Ann Coulter thinks he's gorgeous.
So, sure, he'll be a hit at the White House gym, fooling around with the boys -- Dick, Rummy, Wolfy et al -- naked and shameless in the sauna, tumbler of scotch in one hand, contraband Cuban cigar in the other, taking full advantage of the taxpayer-funded spa facilities. He can probably snap a towel with the best of them. For this bunch of phony-tough chickenhawks, slapping each other's naked backsides and calling each other "magnificent bastards" in a gravelly bark is the very essence of manly leadership.
But there's so much more about Goss for the Bushies to like than just the familiarity of his character.
For instance, there's the fact that he doesn't think the intentional, malicious, revenge outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame -- rendering years of her work on extremely sensitive WMD issues relating to Africa and Saudi Arabia all for naught -- is anything to get worked up about. In fact, Goss doesn't even believe it should have been investigated!
"I would say there's a much larger dose of partisan politics going on right now than there is worry about national security," Goss recently belched to Florida's Herald-Tribune newspaper, contradicting what pretty much every other CIA veteran has had to say about the incident. "Somebody sends me a blue dress and some DNA, I'll have an investigation."
BWAH-HA-HA!!! Ho-Ho! Oh… now my sides hurt! Man oh man, that sure was a good one. I bet Orrin "the Roarin' Mormon Moron" Hatch pissed his bondage harness when he heard it.
But in all seriousness, Goss's little joke at the expense of the last legitimately elected President of the USA only serves as further evidence of him being a perfect fit for this White House. That five years, two wars and the worst terrorist attack in American history didn't succeed in dislodging the "blue dress" from Goss's brain is a good thing, you see, because Preznit Dubya holds a grudge like a canvas holds paint. And it's important that the people with whom he surrounds himself hate the same people he hates, at least as much as he does.
Another thing Goss has in common with Dubya is that he isn't qualified for the job he's being handed on a silver platter. He admitted as much this March, to Michael Moore of all people, when he was caught on camera saying: "I couldn't get a job with CIA today. I am not qualified. I don't have the language skills. I, you know, my language skills were romance languages and stuff. We're looking for Arabists today. I don't have the cultural background probably. And uh, as my children remind me every day, Dad you got to get better on your computer. Uh, so, the things that you need to have, I don't have."
If all of the above fails to convince you, how about a ringing endorsement from America's first and favorite organ of crypto-fascist/neo-conservative rhetoric and propaganda, the National Review? It reads, in part: "President Bush nominated the former Yale alum, CIA spy, eight-term congressman, and chair of the House Select Intelligence Committee to replace the departed George Tenet as CIA director. It's the right choice. Goss will be another Allan Dulles."
I repeat: "Goss will be another Allan Dulles." And they're saying that as if it were a good thing.
Now might be a good time for those of you who are in any way familiar with the history of the CIA to lie down, maybe take a Valium, close your eyes for a bit, and wait for that dizzy, nauseous feeling to subside. If you're not familiar with the history of the CIA -- and the supremely vile Dulles's role in the worst of its transgressions -- now might be a good time to do a little research.
Goss's connection to Dulles doesn't end with their Ivy League credentials. Both men also display/ed an utter contempt for the American people and the rule of law. In Dulles, this contempt reached its nadir with his support for the monstrous Operation Northwoods plan, a covert operation that would have seen American agents staging deadly terrorist attacks on American soil -- including hijacking and blowing up commercial planes -- in order to garner public support for an invasion of Cuba. This is a man who was obviously ahead of his time!
In Goss, this contempt manifests itself in his attempts to pass legislation that would unleash the CIA here at home, allowing agents to infiltrate, conduct surveillance of and even arrest whichever American citizens and groups happen to be pissing off the Powers That Be at any given time.
The changes Goss supports would retroactively legitimize Nixon's obscene abuses of power during the Watergate period, and could potentially lead to the emergence of a country-club Schutzstaffel; an unidentifiable, unaccountable secret brotherhood of like-minded elites for whom the rules the rest of us live by don't apply. Think of your most pompous, insufferable neighbor. Think of the cruelest bully among your high-school classmates. Think of the worst boss you ever had. Now imagine those people with a license to kill.
Believe it or not, it gets worse. Although he is loathe to brag about it -- and who could blame him? -- it turns out Porter Goss actually took part in the infamous, illegal, Dulles-crafted Bay of Pigs invasion! As long-time Dirt readers already know, this rarely remarked upon bit of career trivia pulls Goss even tighter into the rotten nexus of the Bush family's generation-spanning tradition of psychopathic, entitlement-fueled criminality.
A word to the wise… once you start delving into the myriad Bush/Miami/Cuba/CIA/JFK/Mafia/election fraud/assassination connections, it's almost impossible to stop. Eventually, it may even cost you friends and family. Nobody likes a conspiracy nut, especially one who's onto something.
So by now, you must be wondering, where the hell are the Democrats in all this?! Why aren't they threatening to block Goss's nomination? Why -- at a time of unprecedented national challenges, when the nation's intelligence is in dire need of a positive, constructive change -- is the "loyal opposition" rolling over for Bush's nomination of a compromised, incompetent, old guard crony? Why the apparent lack of outrage from the Democratic establishment?
The Boston Globe's Tom Oliphant thinks he might know the answer. He believes Goss's nomination was nothing less than a Rove-inspired trick to outrage Democrats in the hopes that they would oppose his nomination, which would then allow them to be portrayed as "obstructionists" and "soft on terror." And I quote:
"Resurrecting the nomination of Porter Goss to run the CIA for what might turn out to be the shortest tenure on record only makes sense if there is a bruising fight over his confirmation that draws in Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry. The fact that there won't be a fight and that Kerry has shrewdly stayed away from President Bush's latest confusion of national security and presidential politics only underscores how cynical the nomination was. The Democrats have correctly smelled a rat. Instead of taking Bush's bait, they wisely plan to put the rat on display."
The only thing we can do now is sit back and hope Oliphant's political instincts are correct.
